MUZZA Science Week 2025

We found ourselves once again at a science fair, this time in Zagreb at the 4th MUZZA Science Week. The event took place from April 10 to 13 in the Rectorate building of the University of Zagreb. Over four exciting days, visitors had the opportunity to explore more than 100 workshops, interactive experiments, exhibitions, and lectures. The goal was to make science engaging and inspiring for children and teenagers, and the program came to life through collaboration with various institutions and faculties of the University of Zagreb.

As part of the event, Antonia and Marko presented a part of our research focused on ant behaviour and their adaptations to different environmental conditions. This year, we brought along two live colonies of Mediterranean harvester ants, which drew a lot of attention. Children, their parents, as well as grandparents, watched with excitement as the live ant colonies revealed their complex organisation and specialised roles. We received many thoughtful questions and even inspired a few people to be more gentle with ants in the future.

Taking part as an exhibitor at MUZZA Science Week was one of those moments that remind you why you fell in love with science in the first place. The building was filled not only with people but also with curiosity and a truly great atmosphere. Speaking from “the other side of the table”, we can say it was a real pleasure to share knowledge and to see how much it meant to people, especially knowing that the event was completely free and open to all.

Once again, we showed that science is anything but boring. We had the chance to connect directly with the public, share our work, and answer a wide range of interesting questions. MUZZA Science Week proved once more how important it is to create space for dialogue between the scientists and the wider community, especially when it comes to encouraging curiosity and interest in science among children and teenagers.
