Educational event Brijuni na dlanu
As part of our field research in the Brijuni National Park, we participated in the Educational Event „Brijuni na dlanu“. The idea of this event is for visitors to discover the natural and cultural values of Brijuni and to meet experts from various fields.

We held a full-day workshop on ants and our research, during which we were situated in the beautiful Mediterranean garden. From 10 am to 6 pm, we had a variety of visitors; from the youngest who wanted to find out exactly why, how, where, who and what, to the slightly older ones whose childlike curiosity was awakened as soon as they came into contact with a magnifying glass, ant queens and a thermal camera. We are glad that we managed to awaken such an interest in ants in some of the children that they called themselves “ant detectives” and searched for ants throughout the Mediterranean garden! With our personal equipment and some provided by the Brijuni National Park’s staff, we showed visitors what ant colonies look like, who’s the „ant mom“, what the various developmental stages of ants look like, and how ectothermic organisms react to different temperatures in their microenvironment.

With this excellent event, we finished our first field trip to Brijuni National Park and headed back to Zagreb, satisfied!
